Our History
ArtUs Co began in 2005 after our team noticed a lack of affordable art studio spaces in Austin. We decided to dedicate ourselves to solving the problem by creating the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization first known as Shady Tree Studios, later becoming the Pump Project. For a decade, Pump Project provided opportunities for over 250 artists and hosted almost 200 exhibitions in a 20,000-square-foot warehouse in East Austin when increasing real estate pricing began threatening art spaces.
In 2019, we partnered with The Arboretum to create a new creative hotspot for local artists to showcase and sell their work. We started as a pop-up shop and formally renamed our organization to ArtUs Co, but we soon expanded to a long-term store where our team and clientele was able to grow significantly.
As of January 2022, we are focusing on our collective with studios/gallery/gift shop space full-time. Here, we are able to host exhibitions, workshops, events, and more for artists, art collectors, and art enthusiasts alike.
